The Mamadio's Story
Growing up just outside Philadelphia in the tough, blue-collar suburbs of Delaware County, I was immersed in a world of die-hard sports fans, unique accents, and unwavering community spirit. My Italian heritage meant our family gatherings revolved around food, wine, lively arguments, and unconditional love. My culinary journey began in my family's kitchen, where my grandmothers and mother crafted incredible pastas, cakes, and meatballs.
After college and various food industry jobs, I found my place at an Italian deli in East Falls, right by the famous Rocky steps. Here, I served the community, forming bonds with everyone from local cops to neighborhood doctors. My passion for food only grew, leading me to manage four pizzerias for eight years before becoming the head chef at an Italian restaurant, where I honed my skills further.
Fifteen years in, I felt the burn of working for others and moved to Sonoma County, following friends and trying my hand at real estate. But my dream of owning a deli never faded. In 2016, a severe accident left me with a broken neck, but my determination only strengthened during recovery. I was set on opening a deli, no matter what.
COVID-19 almost derailed my plans in 2020, but during that time, I met Sasha, my girlfriend and fellow food industry veteran. Together, we developed the concept of a mom-and-pop store, bringing it to life with determination and love. Sonoma County’s brewery culture, with its friendly staff and present owners, inspired us to create a similar community feel through a pop-up food business celebrating my East Coast roots.
Mamadios is a heartfelt tribute to my grandmothers, Carmela and Norma, and my mother, Lillian—the "mamas" behind the name. Our mission is to bring the rich Italian flavors and traditions of my Philadelphia upbringing to Sonoma County. Mamadios embodies the Philly sandwich vibe—it's a passion, a love, and an experience for everyone.
